VOCATIONAL TRAINING ACTIVITIES IN PISA

- 2004: on Friday November 12th the fifth vocational training course for apprentice jockeys was completed.
The course, as usual co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Province of Pisa and by UNIRE, was a 1.200 hour project designed by Percorsi, a firm specialized in training programs located in Livorno.
All 14 participants were admitted to the final qualifying exam and all passed it brilliantly.
During the last week of the course the participants also took the exam to obtain the European certificate of lad jockey that starting this year has been denominated EQUES (European Qualification for Employers of Stables, ex FELAJOC).
The San Rossore apprentices faced this test with great determination and did extremely well with the commission which had come purposely from France even setting a record. Infact 13 out of 14 (93%) passed all three tests, result never obtained in any of the numerous past sessions neither in France nor in Ireland.

- 2003: the fourth vocational training course for apprentice jockeys began on May 12th. This course had some limitations in the selection of the candidates due to the fact that it was financed by the European Community and certain restrictions applied. For this reason it was open only to minors and only 9 of the 12 openings were filled.
The following are the names of those who successfully completed the course:

Starting in February 2001 UNIRE requires that to obtain the apprentice jockey licence a vocational training course be attended as well. At the end of the course 13 participants were admitted to the final exam which they brilliantly passed at the end of July. Following are the names of the apprentices.

- 2001 - 2002: first course for horse lads. Also in this case 12 out of the 14 who enrolled completed the course. They, for the first time in Italy, were examined by a completely foreign commission in order to obtain the European certificate FELAJOC.
- 2000 – 2001: P.I.R. (Piano d’Intervento Regionale – Regional Intervention Plan) that besides having identified the professional figures of horseracing and the necessary training required has allowed the realization of a refresher course for apprentice jockeys that was attended both by the participants of the 1998 and 1999 course and by others. The PIR has also promoted training courses for our operators.
- 1998 – 1999: first course for apprentice jockeys. 12 out of 14 participants finished the course that in any case was not required as far as obtaining the UNIRE licence for apprentice jockeys was concerned. Nino Murru, Pierantonio Convertino and Matteo Bacci are the names of the participants of this first editino who initially were the most noted though after a few months Mirko Sanna, Giancarlo Cossu, Samuele Diana and Cristian Gnesi as well were to be considered. Nino Murru, in Aprile 2003, was the first to reach the mark of 100 career victories.
