The “Cotoni”
The training courses at the south end of the Racecourse grounds are called “Cotoni”. There are four straight
grass courses, varying in width from 10 to 30 metres, and two sand courses. All the Cotoni courses are 1,900
metres long. There are also two paths where horses can be walked or trotted as well as a training corridor for
hurdles All the courses both the grass and the sand ones have an automatic irrigation system which permits their
use in the summer season as well. At the end of the courses there is an area of about 32.000 square meters
equipped with rings where the horses can be walked trotted or simply relax.
The “Incavezzature”
On the east side of the San Rossore Racecourse there is a circular grass training course called “Incavezzature”
which is about 1,500 meters long and about 13 meters wide. In the inner part of this course there is a sand course
which has the same outline of the grass course and is about 1.450 meters long. The circular grass course has
an automatic irrigation system which keeps the ground soft and allows the course to be used during the summer
months as well. On the grass area inside these two courses there are three corridors where horses can train and
practice hurdles and steeple chase barriers. There are also 50 box stalls with relative facilities where visiting
horses are kept during the races. An isolation paddock outfitted with all the necessary equipment according to
regulations as required by UNIRE can also be set up in this area.
